Heads up if you’re flying to or from Portugal!
Air travel in Portugal could see some turbulence—not in the air, but on the ground. Ground handling staff at Menzies, represented by two unions (SIMA and STA), have announced a series of strikes that will stretch all the way into the new year.
The strike action officially kicks off September 12th–15th and won’t be a one-off. Expect additional walkouts later in the month (September 19th–22nd and September 26th–28th).
October and November bring even more disruption, with strikes planned almost every week:
October 3rd–6th, 10th–13th, 17th–20th, 24th–27th, and 31st–November 3rd.
November 7th–10th, 14th–17th, and 21st–24th.
And it doesn’t end there—December’s travel rush will also be affected, with strikes from December 5th–8th, 12th–15th, and 19th all the way through January 2nd, 2026.
If you’re flying in or out of Portugal during these dates, be prepared for possible delays or cancellations, and keep an eye on airline updates before heading to the airport.
