Could CR7 Get Married in Madeira?
Reports suggest Cristiano Ronaldo and Georgina Rodríguez are planning a 2026 summer wedding at Funchal Cathedral. Nothing is confirmed, and the island is already talking about it.
A Homecoming, If It Happens
After more than nine years together, Cristiano Ronaldo and Georgina Rodríguez are reportedly ready to marry. The interesting part is where. Rather than a European palace or a luxury estate abroad, the speculation points homeward, to Madeira, some time after the 2026 World Cup.
Official confirmation from the couple is still outstanding, so treat all of this as reporting rather than fact. What is not in doubt is the appetite for it here.
Historic Funchal Cathedral
According to reports from networks including beIN SPORTS, the ceremony would be held at Funchal Cathedral. Inaugurated in 1514, it is the oldest and most emblematic religious building on the island, built in local cedar and limestone, and still the spiritual centre of the archipelago.
The choice would be a pointed one. The cathedral sits less than two miles from the hospital where Ronaldo was born, and a short distance from Nacional da Madeira, one of the clubs where he spent his youth career. For a couple who have consistently kept family at the centre of things, a private island wedding fits.
The Wedding of the Century?
The couple have kept the details firmly to themselves. If it does happen in Funchal, the scale is not really in question: a guest list drawn from global sport and entertainment, and a week the island would feel from the airport onwards.
Ronaldo’s connection here is already written into the place, with an airport carrying his name and the CR7 Museum by the marina. A wedding would add a romantic chapter to a legacy that is mostly made of football, and would do Madeira’s standing as a location for events of this size no harm at all.
You do not have to be football royalty to fall for this island. It just helps with the guest list.
