Atlantic Festival 2026 | Fireworks & Music in Funchal

Welcome summer the Madeiran way! Taking place throughout the entire month of June, the Atlantic Festival is the island's signature celebration that beautifully pairs culture, art, and entertainment with the cinematic atmosphere of the Atlantic Ocean.

At the heart of the festival is the renowned International Madeira Fireworks Competition. Every Saturday night, the sky above Funchal Bay transforms into a canvas of explosive color, perfectly choreographed to music. These breathtaking 20-minute pyromusical performances feature pyrotechnic companies from three different countries competing for the prestigious "Atlantic Trophy", which is awarded by a jury. Additionally, the "Madeira Belongs to All Trophy" is awarded based on a public vote. The pyrotechnic celebrations kick off with an opening show in Machico on June 6 and culminate with grand closing spectacles in Funchal on June 27 and Porto Santo on June 28.

But the Atlantic Festival is much more than its spectacular Saturday night fireworks. Throughout the month, the archipelago comes alive with an immersive calendar of events:

• Summer Sunsets: You can enjoy the island's warm evenings from Friday to Sunday in the gardens beside Praça do Povo. These gatherings feature live music, a vibrant atmosphere, and a gastronomy section with traditional Madeiran products.

• Regional Arts Week: Funchal's streets become a creativity area for diverse artistic performances. The event features music, dance, singing, movement, and cinematic presentations.

• Ópera no Pico: Experience a new dimension of culture with this cycle of performances at the stunning Fortaleza do Pico. Visitors can enjoy unforgettable nights of music and passion under the stars.

• More Island Magic: The extensive, month-long program is beautifully rounded out by multimedia shows, circus shows, and the Funchal Lyons Club Bread Fair.
