39th Madeira Music Festival: A Celebration of Classical Arts

Elevate your island experience with the prestigious Madeira Music Festival. Spanning three weeks in March, this premier cultural event brings world-class classical music to some of the island's most breathtaking architectural and historical landmarks.

Organized by the Madeira Classical Orchestra, the festival is a must-attend for both devoted classical music aficionados and those simply looking to add a touch of auditory elegance to their holiday itinerary.

A Symphony of Global Talent

The 39th edition of the festival boasts a remarkable lineup, featuring 10 distinct concerts and bringing together 191 acclaimed artists from around the world. Audiences can expect unique, spellbinding performances ranging from intimate chamber music to grand orchestral masterpieces. Beyond the main concerts, the festival is dedicated to cultivating future talent, offering free masterclasses for young instrumentalists and insightful cultural lectures.

Historic Venues Across the Island

What truly sets the Madeira Music Festival apart is its marriage of sound and setting. Concerts are not confined to a single concert hall; instead, performances take place inside some of the island's most iconic buildings. Experience soaring acoustics inside the Sé Cathedral, the regal atmosphere of the Baltazar Dias Municipal Theatre, or the modern, clifftop elegance of the Mudas Contemporary Art Museum in Calheta.

Tips for Attending:

  • Book Tickets in Advance: Because these concerts take place in historic churches and intimate theatres, seating is often highly limited. Secure your tickets well ahead of your travel dates.

  • Plan a Cultural Evening: Many of the Funchal-based venues are located right in the city center. Pair your concert evening with dinner at one of the city's fine dining establishments, which are easily accessible on foot from our central properties.

  • Explore Beyond Funchal: Take advantage of the concert schedule to explore other parts of the island. A performance at the Mudas Museum is the perfect excuse to spend an afternoon enjoying the sun-drenched southwestern coast of Calheta.
