Madeira Wine Festival 2026: Dates & Programme
The festival that honours Madeira's most famous export, the fortified wine that's been made here for some 400 years. It runs on two tracks: a city celebration in Funchal and a rural one in the wine villages. In Funchal, the Madeira Wine Lounge at Praça do Povo (31 Aug–13 Sep) lays on tastings, regional food, live music and masterclasses.
For the real thing, head to Estreito de Câmara de Lobos for the live grape harvest on 5 September, you can join the picking and treading, plus folklore and Concerts in the Vineyards on the September weekends. It's the most hands-on way to understand the island's wine culture.
Good to know: The Funchal Wine Lounge is free to enter; pay per tasting. The Estreito harvest is a short drive west of the city. Check the official programme for exact concert dates and masterclass bookings.
Stay central for both, a Funchal base puts the Praça do Povo on your doorstep and the wine villages a short drive away. See Carreira Vicente, or browse our best restaurants in Funchal guide to round out the eating.
