About
A family-run institution for over 30 years, Casal da Penha sits in Funchal's hotel zone, tucked among the big resorts yet keeping the warmth of a true local kitchen. The Michelin Guide awarded it a Bib Gourmand for good, honest cooking at fair prices. The father runs the stoves, turning out traditional Madeiran specialities — fresh fish of the day, espetada grilled over wood, black scabbard fish with banana, rice dishes, and even paella. A modest, well-kept dining room is matched by a flower-filled rooftop terrace with views over the city and Atlantic — a small oasis that makes every meal feel a little special.

Local tip from Ola Madeira
Book ahead — since the Michelin nod it's busy most nights and walk-ins often wait. Ask for a table on the rooftop terrace, and don't skip the crepe Suzette flambéed at your table.
