One of the oldest cafés in Funchal, on the pedestrian square beside the cathedral. It is where the city sits down: a bica and a pastel de nata at eight, a long lunch under the awnings, a beer at the end of the afternoon while the Old Town walks past.
About Apolo Café
The room inside is the original one, tiled and high ceilinged, and it is where people sit when the wind comes up the square. Everyone else takes the terrace: a dozen tables on the pedestrian square, the cathedral on one side and the Old Town walking past on the other.
