Three wheels, a driver who lives here and an open side, which is the useful way to take in a city built up a hill. The routes go up to the viewpoints, across to Cristo Rei and along the coast to Câmara de Lobos, and nobody has to park anything.
About Madeira TukTuk
Funchal is built up the side of a hill, which is why a tuk tuk works here in a way it does not in a flat city: it gets up the back streets a coach cannot take, stops wherever the driver wants to point at something, and leaves you looking out of an open side rather than through glass. The regular routes take in the viewpoints above the city, the Cristo Rei statue across the bay at Garajau, the villages where Cristiano Ronaldo grew up, and the run along the coast to Câmara de Lobos. The driver is the guide, so the tour is only as good as the conversation, and that is the part people come back saying was the point.
