Four people, two bedrooms, two shower rooms
Nobody is on a sofa bed and nobody is queueing for the bathroom. It is the only home we let in the middle of Funchal that can say both.

The second bedroom is really a small flat
It has its own shower room, its own counter and a door onto a private patio. Two couples travelling together get a room each with a door that shuts, rather than one bedroom and whoever lost the argument.

Everything is a walk from the front door
The Jardim Municipal is three minutes away, the cathedral five, the marina six. Nothing you have come to Funchal for needs a car.
About this home
Rua da Carreira is a street of first floors. The merchants who built it put their windows one storey up, behind wrought iron balconies deep enough to stand on, and almost two centuries later the ironwork is still the first thing you notice about the street and still the part nobody sees properly from the pavement. Carreira Vicente is on that floor, and its windows face a run of green and white houses close enough across the cobbles that you are level with their balconies rather than under them. It is a quieter view than it sounds: the traffic is below the sightline, and what comes through the windows is light off the facades opposite and the noise of a street people mostly walk down.
