There is a swimming pool on the roof
Open to the sky, with the Atlantic along one side of it and the mountains behind. Very few flats at this price have one at all, and fewer have one you reach in a lift.

The sea is three minutes downhill
The Lido promenade and the bathing complex are at the bottom of the road, and the walk along the front towards Praia Formosa starts there. No car, no bus, no parking to find.

The shopping is downstairs, not across town
There is a supermarket in the ground floor of the building and the restaurants of the Lido are along the same street. On the first evening that matters more than it sounds.
About this home
The Lido is the end of Funchal that the city uses rather than visits. There is no old town here and nothing much to photograph: there is a long promenade along the top of the rocks, two bathing complexes cut into them with ladders down into the Atlantic, and a run of restaurants and cafés that stay open because people who live here eat in them. Most mornings somebody is swimming before work. Staying at this end means the sea is part of the day rather than an outing, and it means the centre is a thirty minute walk or a five euro taxi when you want it, which for a week is the right way round for most people.
