The Monte Wicker Toboggan is one of Madeira’s most iconic activities, offering a thrilling downhill ride from Monte to Funchal. Starting in the hilltop parish of Monte, just above Funchal, visitors ride in traditional wicker sledges steered by skilled “carreiros” dressed in white. This historic 19th-century experience combines culture, speed, and scenic views, with a fast 2km descent through winding streets and panoramic outlooks over Funchal and the Atlantic Ocean.
