An Italian kitchen on the Estrada Monumental, among the hotels but priced nothing like them. Pasta made in the kitchen, thin-crust pizza and risotto that changes with what is around, in a small room where the portions come out bigger than the room suggests.

The Estrada Monumental is the hotel road, which usually means a menu in four languages and a price to match, and the reason this one gets recommended is that it is neither. The pasta is made here, the pizzas come out thin and the risottos are the part people remember, chestnut and bacon among them, which is a Madeiran ingredient in an Italian dish. The room is small and decorated with some care, so it works for two as easily as for a family.
